Also, Alaska’s Nome Area Wildlife Viewing Guide (referenced above) is now available free of charge in various places around Nome and can be requested by mail from the Nome Visitors Center. Hi, I am trying to get into touch with the author of this article. After reading your piece I traveled to nome to visit my brother. I was able to obtain something from Richards belongings that I would like to send to the author. It’s an aerial portrait of nome that Richard commissioned.

I’ve been to Kodiak. Lovely place. It’s a lot like you described Nome. It’s probably colder however.

You can get it from Amazon, or contact the Nome Fish & Game office, or the Nome Visitor Center. Yes, I’m a co-author but I don’t make a penny from sales. What a wonderful description of Nome and the surrounding area. Loved reading it. We lived in Nome for 6 years from l969 on. We lived in the parsonage at the Church of the Nazarene where Stephen Beals was pastor. We loved the people and still have many dear friends from there, St. Lawrence Island and north. The Iditarod started when we lived there and it was fun welcoming each musher as they came in no matter what the hour. The only time pastor Beals missed was when church was in session. All of our family loved Nome and are so happy each time we can go back and visit. Your article made us want to do it again soon. Fond memories for sure.
